Check this out

charlies honest quencher

Check out Charlie’s. This NZ brand has as they call it »honest« juices. I just enjoyed their »honest lemonade quencher« - delicious! And their design is cool too.

Today

After another day of work, whittling through thousands of soggy and muddy plants, experiencing an earthquake – of which I haven’t felt a thing, and freezing my rear off I am happy to be home. What we call »home« at the moment is a fairly nice house, directly at Wainui beach. We wake up each day watching the sea and are amazed how different it looks everyday. I would go for a swim if only the water wouldn’t be so bloody cold.

Moving

Today we are going to move again. Pack all the stuff in our big suitcase put the stuff in the car and off we go. This time only a couple houses further down the road. Another family going on a holiday is happy to let us sit their house. We checked the house last night. Got instructions how to feed the cats and light the fire. After NZ we will be professional housesitters, I don’t think you need a degree for that… see ya.

This is where we are

Größere Kartenansicht

Right now we are staying in a house at the beach. It is just stunning. Out in the back you have lucious green hills and cows grazing, at the front you have surfers trying to catch the perfect wave. We are staying in this house until Friday and move into another house just around the corner. Housesitting. I hope this one does have some kind of heating system. The last house we sitted was awesome, beautiful and freezing cold. No heaters and drafty windows. The only thing that kept us warm there was the spa.

Lifting plants

We have been lifting new vines for the last two days. It has been dang hard and exhausting. But I have to say that I like the job. You grab the plant, you pull, you shake the dirt off the rootstock, you succeed. It is simple and challenging at the same time. And what I like most about it – it is honest.

Working class

Since Wednesday we are part of the working class again. It feels good to finally do something worthwhile, after several months of bumming around – even though that was fun too! We are whittling it away at a vineyard-nursery. It is good fun so far and we are enjoying the time there.

Reflection

After about a month in beautiful Australia we are back in good old New Zealand. Sydney was a lot better than expected, so was Melbourne. Meeting old/new friends was awesome. Thank you everyone over there. We have had a blast.

We arrived here in Christchurch on June 21st at around two in the morning. That was the longest night over here and the shortest on the other side of the equator. Isn‘t that something. It is kinda like the same with the glass is half-full or the glass is half-empty thing, it is the perspective that we have on things that makes the difference. Wow that was »d.a.m!« (deep and meaningful).

Well anyways today is my 31st Birthday. I am writing this to you not to make you feel guilty in case you might have forgotten to wish me a happy birthday, no, no, I am mainly writing this to myself, because I can hardly belief that I am already that old or young – whatever ones perspective is on that. I hear people say: »I don’t feel this or that age…!«, and I am thinking, how do they know? Have they been there before, have they been reincarnated or something? I don’t know whether I should feel 31, I just know by using my poor knowledge of algebra, that I am 31 today, that is a fact that my calculator backs up as well. I know it all comes down to the perspective on things and comparison with others. People stand up to your age face the fact, it is a good thing! That is enough for today… see you around!
